Blog Post Skijoring and other sports
Skijoring is a fun sport to do with your siberian husky. All you need is a skijoring kit to connect you with your dog, and know how to x-country ski. Ruffwear makes a excellent skijoring kit that includes a harness for the dog and for the person as well as a bungy cord. Whitegrass has an excellent trail for skiing with your dog. If your dog knows how to walk on a leash he/she will be able to pull you on skis and will follow the trail. Pulling comes natural to this breed. Our female was only 1 1/2 yrs old when we first took her.
There are lots of activities that the huskies love like running but not when it’s too hot. Over 80 degrees is too hot for a husky to run in. Pick your running times early in the morning before it gets hot or late in the evening after it cools down.
I walk 2.5 miles per day with my huskies. I walk them together using a sledding tie so I’m only using one leash. Works great. They pout if I don’t walk them.
This breed also loves kayaking but may not be so eager to jump in the water which is good so you won’t have to worry about them tipping you over. I have only kayaked in a tandem sit-in kayak with one dog. Two dogs will be a challenge but I’ll try that next summer. It might be better to use a sit on top kayak and two kayaks with two dogs.
What other sports have you tried with your husky? Let me know.

What’s your sport with your husky?
They are great dogs for Skijoring. You only need 1 dog per person and know how to x-country ski. Connect using a dog joring kit for you and the dog and your off. They take naturally to the sport and love the snow!! Whitegrass in Davis WV is an excellent place to go x-country skiing with a dog. They have one long trail that’s not groomed.
There’s Kayaking too. They love being out on the water in a kayak.
